Next the agressiveness of the multiband compressor/limiter will be changed.

Next, configure the up speed (attack) and down speed divider (decay) values.
  • High up speed (attack) values mean that, after a volume drop caused by a loud peak, the volume increases very quickly. This gives a very "full" sound, but it may be fatiguing to listen to for longer times. For best results, use values between 0.00004 and 0.00018.

  • High down speed divider (decay) values mean that the volume is dropped very rapidly when a peak occurs. This makes the sound very "flat". It is very effective at removing peaks though. Also, the sound becomes "softer", which may sound better on cheaper speakers. For best results, use values between 0.0004 and 0.0010.

Note that the attack values must always be lower than the decay values, otherwise the volume rises faster than it drops.

In the early 1990s, some radio stations used very agressive compression, correspondig to values near 0.01500 (up speed) and 0.0250 (down speed). So higher values may also be acceptable.
